Dromana - SAT 9th Jan 2021

There were people everywhere! The beaches were packed with people, and the streets were full of cars. It was a great atmosphere, like none we had seen in a very very long time…

I had gone out early, and was there and set up early, for a change. And, apart from having to move for a couple of kids that must have thought I was their personal photographer and they were models in a photo shoot, I had picked as best a position that you can get for a sunset at this time of year.

I love it when people think they are getting in the way, but they don’t realise they are the characters in my pictures…

Tell me, in the comments section below, what you think…

Rye Beach - THU 7th Jan 2021

The sunset was simple this evening, but there was a little orange/pink colour in the sky looking North East towards Arthur’s Seat…

I then decided to take a walk to the Rye Carnival to see what I could do with some of the colourful rides.

JAMIESON - December 2020

Like many, our Christmas travel plans were changed at late notice last year, and we found ourselves visiting a Beautiful little town in the Victorian High Country called Jamieson.

Jamieson is on the corner of Lake Eildon National Park which is fed by the Goulbourn River, and branches off into the Jamieson River.

We were extremely lucky to be accommodated by the amazingly friendly Jamieson Caravan Park owner/managers, Franziska and Tom, at extremely late notice, and enjoyed the amazing tranquility of their park, including the heated outdoor pool, and the cool running water of the Jamieson River on one side of the park, and easy access to the town from the other.

ANCHORED BOAT ON RYE BEACH - SUN 13TH DEC 2020

We had been to the beach to cool down, earlier that afternoon, and spied this boat sitting in shallow water. I checked the tides and sunset times, and they were a perfect match, so I just knew I had to return.

Tonight, I was taking pictures from 8:20pm till 9:23pm, and the light kept changing as the clock ticked, and with all the different angles I was shooting from as I moved around the boat. Another trick to good photography, is to move around your subject. Experiment with the different angles. Zoom in and out, get up high, and get down low. If you don’t like what you see, then just delete it.

When you buy camera equipment, there is a calculated risk associated with it’s use. Whether you are climbing over slippery rocks on a beach, or through the bush to a waterfall, there is always a danger associated with getting that perfect angled shot. The tripod is one piece of equipment that you buy to use. Mine goes in the sand, and like tonight, in the sea water, or wherever it is needed. The way I see it is, there is no use buying good equipment to get good photographs, but then keep it safe at home.

SHELLEY BEACH - FRI 11TH DEC 2020

One of the tips I give people taking photo’s, is to always look behind you. You can be so focused on what you are wanting to see in the lens in front of you, that sometimes we miss the magic that can happen behind us.

The Zig Zag Jetty on Shelley Beach is one of those places that just doesn’t get the right angle for the sun in the beauty of a sunrise or sunset. So, it’s one of those moments that you are ‘looking behind you’, to hope for some magic in the sky.

With not a cloud in the sky, I think I was very lucky with these results tonight, as I was chasing the changing colours, from the many different angles, up and down the steps, and along the beach through susnet and into blue hour…

London Bridge (Portsea)- WED 9TH DEC 2020

Long daylight hours gives me plenty of time to travel a little further a lot later.

I arrived, and as I stepped onto the beach, the sun was a magnificent backdrop to the waves, with a golden reflection in the sky.

It was so beautiful in fact, that I almost didn’t make it to capture what I actually went to photograph… London Bridge (Portsea)

Rye Pier - Thu 3rd Dec 2020

If you can capture just one different picture each shoot, it is all worthwhile..

These seagulls all went crazy when a boat came into the ramp, then they settled near me ?

I saw these divers walking from the carpark to the pier when I ran to get in behind them…

Then, I spotted these 2 all alone on the beach.

Rye Pier - Wed 2nd Dec 2020

At home, and with Sunset time fast approaching, as I do when hesitating, I walked out first into the front yard, and then the back yard, and looked at the clouds and if there was any wind…

With 30 minutes to go till sunset, and a 10 minute trip to the Pier, do I go tonight or not?
